Vampires pay a visit to ConferenceHertfordshire
May 2010
ConferenceHertfordshire were very pleased to welcome the first UK Vampire Conference at the University of Hertfordshire.
Entitled ‘Open Graves, Open Minds: Vampires and the Undead in Modern Culture' the conference aimed to encourage students of all ages to study literature. With a large interest in modern vampire series, including The Twilight Saga and The Vampire Diaries, conference organiser Dr Sam George who is an English lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire, wants to prove that modern literature can be studied in a serious manner.
Working with ConferenceHertfordshire, the University's conference and events provider, Dr George's plan was to offer a conference with more than a twist to attending delegates. Vampire themed food included, steaks smothered in tomato ketchup and tomato soup were served, whilst refreshments were provided in large open coffins, complete with a skeleton inside.
Topics discussed within the programme included ‘Undead TV', ‘Undead in the New Media' and ‘Appetites of the Undead'. ConferenceHertfordshire's Conference Manager, Chris Stocks, commented "It was a privilege to be the chosen venue and become involved in such a unique and exciting conference. We really enjoyed working with Dr George and having the opportunity to be creative with the vampire theme was a lot of fun. We are more than sure that this event will be one that is remembered by all who attended."
The two day event was held at the University's de Havilland Campus on 16 and 17 April 2010.
