A £7.5m Development completes Hope's Creative Campus
June 2010
The Capstone, on Liverpool Hope University's Creative Campus in Shaw Street, opens its doors to the public on 21st March with a week of special performances in the Hope Theatre - the new venue's 300-seat, perfect-acoustic performance space.
The £7.5m Capstone Building is Liverpool Hope's new Centre for Music, Performance and Innovation. Home to Creative and Performing Arts students and staff, the venue will also open its doors to the people of Liverpool and the growing number of national and international visitors who can enjoy shows at Hope Theatre and facilities will also be available for conferences and events.
Around the Theatre, The Capstone has ten sound proof practice rooms, three music and performance studios, three music technology laboratories, lecture rooms, and an exhibition gallery.
These new facilities will complement those already available on the campus in the Grade II listed building, The Cornerstone. A new renaissance-style garden, the Angel's Field - with its open air theatre - will provide a tranquil oasis at this urban location.
The Capstone, funded with the assistance of the North West Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and the Higher Education Funding Council (HEFCE) will also be one of only three Steinway Schools in the UK. All the pianos in the venue, both for performance and rehearsals, will be Steinways.
