"Strictly York"
July 2010
The Ballroom Dance Company from Brigham Young University in Utah, USA, treated the residents of York (and some University staff/students) to spectacular dance formations, solo routines, and ensemble numbers in the style of a major Broadway production in Central Hall on the afternoon of Saturday 12th June 2010. A troupe of 28 young dancers performed breathtaking lifts and spins - all in a seemingly endless stream of shimmering costumes.
The Company has performed throughout Europe, the Middle East, the South Pacific, Eastern Asia, and the USA, so it was quite a coup for York to have been chosen for a performance, particularly as the Company had taken first place in both the British Modern Formation and the Latin Formation Dance Championships in the Winter Garden in Blackpool just a few days prior. They are the first Americans ever to win the British Formation Championships, a feat they have repeated an unprecedented eleven times.
Technicians from the University's Audio Visual Department liaised with the BYU Technical Director and technicians, and provided a seamless service throughout.
