The Association of Congress Offices of Spanish Universities is born
June 2011
On May 25th a group of 4 Spanish universities joined forces and signed the constitution of the Association of Congress Offices of Spanish Universities (OCUE, Asociación de Oficinas de Congresos de Universidades Españolas) in Madrid.
Its objectives, among others, are to contribute to the consolidation of the university as a place for organising meetings and other events, to enhance its visibility and its role in the meetings and incentive market, and to promote quality improvement of the services provided by its members. Those goals are to be achieved through the exchange of ideas, experiences and knowledge by partners, who will be participating in the various activities organised by the Association, such as the annual meetings, held since 2006.
VENUEMASTERS CEO Terry Billingham, participated in the 2009 OCUE annual meeting, showcasing the British experience. It was during the 2010 annual meeting when the statutes of the Association were adopted, in an initiative brought to life by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, a VENUEMASTERS member, which was elected for the presidency of the Association, and received the unanimous support of the other 20 institutions attending.
