Swansea Hosts UK Energy Industry Fundraising Event
August 2011
BG Group, the global natural gas business, held its annual BG Energy Challenge 2011 - UK event at Swansea University from 7-9 July.
Based at Swansea University, the multi-faceted team building and fundraising event brought together employees across the UK energy industry to compete against each other in a bid to raise vital funds for overseas development agency CARE International and children's medical research charity Sparks. The Swansea area was selected for its stunning natural environment providing an ideal backdrop for the various challenges that the participants faced such as orienteering, mountain biking, problem solving and complex construction.
Part of a global series which will see fundraising efforts add to the £5.9 million raised to date by BG Energy Challenge events worldwide, the event is also recognised as an opportunity to build relationships with colleagues and network with employees within the energy industry. The forty teams faced a range of mental, physical and strategic challenges.
Accommodation, catering, meeting space and the party venue were all provided for the 320 attendees on Swansea University's compact campus with its enviable position overlooking Swansea Bay and surrounded by parkland. Some of the challenges were held at Swansea University's adjacent Sports Village which boasts some of the most impressive sports facilities found in any British University. The Organiser Greg Talbot commented:
‘The rooms provided were perfect for what we needed, the university staff very accommodating and the food exceptional. I would definitely recommend Swansea University as a venue for an event of any kind.'
